A urea-urethane colour developer, UU, with its excellent print preservability, is used for thermal recording paper that requires long-term storage. In addition, being phenol-free, it is attracting attention as an alternative to phenol-based developers, a chemical considered to have adverse effects on the human body.

Compared with conventional colour developers with high print preservability, it provides greater effect in water, alcohol, oil, plasticisers, heat, light and fluorescent highlighters.
Despite having high print preservability, it has print sensitivity equal to those with medium print preservability.
It is an environmentally-friendly product, having a different structure from that of phenol such as bisphenol A, as well as showing negative results in environmental hormone tests with the uterine weight method.
